Service Hours

Each Saint Mary School family is required to complete 40 hours of service.  Up to 20 hours may be ministry performed at the church.  Five (5) of the 40 hours must be completed in the school cafeteria from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm (one-day commitment). Five (5) of the service hours must be completed during the annual major school fundraising event. Up to 20 hours may be completed in a parish ministry. Unserved hours will be billed at $25.00 per hour.

If parents cannot or do not wish to complete the service hours, they may opt to pay a monetary fee of $10.00 per hour of service (example: 40 hours x $10 p/h = $400).

All hours must be recorded and submitted to the school office via Gradelink.  Additional service hour opportunities include:

  • Coaching a sports team

  • Moderating a club

  • Serving on the PTO or as a room parent

  • Volunteering in the classroom or during school events

  • Volunteering during the fundraisers organized by the PTO

  • Chaperoning during field trips

  • Volunteering during beautification days at the school

The school will inform parents regularly of service hour opportunities. Parents may contact the school office or their child's teacher with questions regarding the completion of services hours. Please note that in order to complete service hours on campus, parents/guardians must be fingerprinted and must complete the Virtus training as required by Archdiocesan guidelines and policies. Please see the Volunteer Requirements page of the website for more information.
